I am glad to see that provision is made for Mr.Gompertz' salary. It appears that the Land Court will finish its

sittings about the middle of the year. This will put an end to the arrangement by which a cadet has held this

the office and drawn, full salary for some time.

In the Registrar General's Department the salaries paid to the Sheriffs, etc., do not quite agree with those ap- proved on 4225 as they all seem to be one increment

behind. Probably the explanation is that the holders

of the appointments have changed. It is unnecessary

to enquire.

Under Harbour Master.

There will be a saving owing to the appoint-

ment of a new man on £780, whereas Captain Fuasey drew

the equivalent of £900.

Judicial and Legal.

Land Registry new Territory. The salary of

the Assistant Land Officer in 1904 is as stated in the

Estimates: the Memorandum was written before receipt of

a despatch in which we reconsidered the matter and allow-

ed $3,600 without increments.

The reduction of the expense of the Land Court, New

Territory (nearly $30,000) is due to the fact that the

Court is expected to complete its work by the middle of

the year. The new Land Registry Office for the

Territory
